Jim Lanier moved to Alaska in 1967 to work at the Native Hospital with the US Public Health Service. After 33 years of service, he retired as a pathologist at Providence Hospital. In 1977 Jim began mushing and ran his first Iditarod in 1979. Never having scratched, he has now entered and completed an unbelievable 15 Iditarods!
